Paris: French President Emmanuel Macron has further added to the political turmoil in the Middle East by announcing the recognition of a Palestinian state in September 2025.

The French President has said on his X account that, adhering to his historic commitment to a just and lasting peace in the Middle East, he has decided that France will recognize the Palestinian state and a formal announcement in this regard will be made at the United Nations General Assembly meeting in New York in September.

On the other hand, regarding France’s announcement to recognize the Palestinian state in September, British Minister Peter Kyle was asked on a BBC program whether Britain would also follow in France’s footsteps. So he said that Britain is also committed to recognizing the Palestinian state, however, the time has not been set in this regard at the moment. He said that the British Prime Minister is going to meet with French and German leaders in an important meeting. Our priority at the moment is to focus on the emergency situation in Gaza and ensure food access to the people.

While the Palestinian Authority welcomed the French government’s announcement, Israel and the United States condemned it.

Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu wrote in a post on X that “We strongly condemn President Macron’s decision to recognize a Palestinian state. In these circumstances, a Palestinian state would be a Launchpad for the destruction of Israel, not for living in peace with it.”
On the other hand, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio tweeted that the United States rejects France’s decision to recognize Palestine as a state. The French president’s decision only promotes Hamas propaganda.
