
US President Donald Trump has said that as a result of his mediation, the leadership of Thailand and Cambodia have agreed to meet immediately to begin work on a ceasefire after three days of fighting.
According to a report by the news agency Reuters, Donald Trump said that the leaders of Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to begin immediate talks on their efforts for peace after three days of border fighting.
Donald Trump said that he had spoken to Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Sen and Thai Acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wichayachai and warned them that if the border dispute continues, they will not make trade deals with anyone.
He said that both sides want an immediate ceasefire and peace.
The report said that Thailand’s acting Prime Minister Phumtham Wichayachai thanked Donald Trump and said that Thailand had agreed in principle to a ceasefire but that Cambodia must show serious intentions.
The Thai Prime Minister said that he had asked Trump to inform Cambodia that Thailand wanted to take steps and strategies for a ceasefire as soon as possible and hold bilateral talks for a possible peaceful resolution of the conflict.
It should be noted that more than 30 civilians have been killed and dozens injured in the war between Thailand and Cambodia that began three days ago and more than 130,000 people have been displaced.
