According to British media, this was revealed in documents from the British Data Regulatory Information Commissioner’s Office. The ICO said that the actions taken at the time of the leak appear to have indicated that the Ministry of Defense was aware of the risks of sharing data and that before the leak, the Ministry of Defense had asked staff not to share information containing confidential tapes.

According to the ICO, the MoD had cited the need to remove confidential tapes from the data sets. According to the documents, ICO staff expressed reservations about not fining the Ministry of Defense.

It should be noted that the data of 19,000 Afghan citizens applying for transfer to the United Kingdom was leaked in 2022. The British regulatory document regarding the incident came to light last month, while this month there was another incident of data leakage of Afghan citizens living in the United Kingdom.

The names, passports, and APR data of 3,700 Afghan citizens living in the UK were affected. These Afghan citizens were brought to the UK under the resettlement scheme after the 2022 leak.
