Pakistan has appealed for global cooperation against digital terrorism and demanded data sharing and cooperation from social media companies.
According to a private TV channel, Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, while holding a press conference along with Minister of State for Law Barrister Aqeel Malik, said that Pakistan is a strong front against terrorism at the global level. We want to block the accounts of terrorists. We want information related to these accounts to be shared with us. Pakistan has identified hundreds of social media accounts linked to terrorism. They are building walls against terrorism. They are not silencing freedom of expression. Social media companies must immediately remove terrorist content through AI. Terrorist propaganda is a punishable offense under the PICA. We are requesting social media operators to cooperate with us all.
Barrister Aqeel Malik said that Pakistan has been greatly affected by terrorism. Pakistan has suffered not only loss of life but also huge financial losses due to terrorism. We would welcome the establishment of offices of social media platforms in Pakistan. Many terrorist groups are banned not only in Pakistan but also in the United Nations list. Talal Chaudhry pointed out that these terrorist groups are running WhatsApp.
