A former England fast bowler who took England’s first ODI wicket in cricket dies. Former English fast bowler Ken Shuttleworth has died at the age of 80. Ken Shuttleworth played 5 Tests and one ODI for England between 1970 and 1971. He was part of England’s famous Ashes-winning team on the 1970-71 tour of Australia. In first-class cricket, he represented Lancashire and Leicestershire. According to British media, Ken Shuttleworth died earlier this month, while Lancashire issued a statement confirming his death last week. Right-arm fast bowler Ken Shuttleworth was known for his long run-ups, side-on action, and fast pace.

He took 484 wickets for Lancashire and another 99 wickets for Leicestershire in his first-class career. Ken Shuttleworth also holds the distinction of taking the first ODI wicket for England in the first ever match against Australia in 1971. He later became a first-class umpire. In 2021, he was inducted into the Lancashire Hall of Fame.
