Police shortcomings identified in Swat tragedy investigation, despite the ban, the police did not stop tourists from going into the river.

The inquiry report says that on the day of the Swat tragedy, a police vehicle was present at the scene of the accident, despite Section 144, the police did not stop tourists from going into the river.

106 FIRs were registered for violation of Section 144, only 14 FIRs were registered by the police and the rest by the assistant commissioners.

The report further said that the police FIRs were less compared to the number of tourists in Swat. Despite having 7,000 personnel, the police could not take any action before or after the incident to prevent it. The police could not present any evidence regarding issuing safety instructions to hotels.

The inquiry report has recommended that an inquiry be conducted into the negligence of the Swat Police and the non-full implementation of Section 144 and action be taken against the concerned officers within 60 days.

It should be noted that on June 27 this year, 13 people were swept away in a flood in the Swat River.
