On Record Pakistan is an independent digital news website. We report on Pakistan first, and we also cover the wider world and the subjects people talk about every day. You can find us at onrecordpk.com.
The name is a promise we try to keep. If we put something in a story, it should be something we can stand behind: checked, sourced and open to questions from you.
Who We Are
We are a news publication that works online, and we don’t belong to any political party or group. We aren’t here to win an argument for anyone. Our job is to tell you what happened, explain why it matters, and leave the judging to you.
We are still growing, and we’d rather be honest about that than dress ourselves up. Trust comes from the work we publish, one story after another, so that is where we put our effort.
Why We Started
Anyone who follows the news in Pakistan knows how a big story unfolds. Within minutes there are ten versions of it on your phone. Some are right, some are half right, and some are made up. The headlines shout, and the facts sit somewhere near the bottom, if they appear at all.
We started On Record Pakistan because we wanted a calmer place to read the news. A reader should be able to open an article and see what is confirmed and what is still unclear. They should also understand the story a little better by the end than they did at the start. It’s a simple aim, but it takes real discipline to do it every day.

This is where we begin. How We Work
When we report a story, we try to say what is known, say what isn’t, and avoid guessing to fill the gap. If a story is still developing, we tell you, and we update the article when new information arrives.
We write in plain language. If a term needs explaining, we explain it. If a headline claims more than the article can support, we change the headline. We also try to be fair, so when people disagree, we present each side accurately. Opinion and news are kept apart so you always know which one you’re reading.
Checking Before Publishing
Most readers never see the checking that happens before a story goes live, but it decides whether the story gets published at all. We try to confirm reports with reliable sources, such as official statements, documents, court records, established news agencies and people who were directly involved.
A claim that spreads on social media is not a fact just because many people repeat it. If we can’t verify something, we hold it back or clearly mark what remains uncertain. We pay close attention to names, dates, numbers, quotes and places, since a small slip in any of them can change what a story means. Photos and videos get the same scrutiny, because an image can mislead when it’s shown without its original context.
Adding Context
Headlines tell you that something happened. They rarely tell you why, or what might follow. So where it helps, we add background: what led to a decision, who it affects, what was said before and what could come next. Not every story needs that. Sometimes a short, clear report is exactly right. But when a story is complicated, we’d like you to leave with more than the surface.
Corrections
Every newsroom makes mistakes, and ours will too. What matters is what we do next.
When we find a genuine error, or a reader points one out and we confirm it, we fix the article. If the mistake is a significant one, we add a note so you can see that the story was changed and why. We don’t quietly edit and hope nobody notices.
